Tree Planting

In 2010, Amansie East had 67.8kha of natural forest, extending over 91% of its land area. In 2020, it lost 1.49kha of natural forest, equivalent to 435kt of CO₂ of emissions.

It is an unavoidable fact that population growth leading to the conversion of forest lands into reusable forms will continue to occur as long as human race persists on earth. Despite the several reforms and policies taken by the government of Ghana and enforced by the Forestry Commission, most forest reserves have either been encroached by farmers or illegal mining operators (galamsey operators). Illegal logging of trees mostly at the blind side of the forestry department continues to fuel deforestation in the Bekwai municipality.

To minimize the decline, the NGO is exploiting all significant options to increase afforestation programs in the municipality and beyond. Our first target is on the compounds of schools within the municipality that have been targeted by erosion or campuses with significant space for tree planting exercises. In all, 20 schools have been selected to plant 200 trees of varied species. The project is coordinated by the Municipal Education (GES), the Municipal Forestry Department and the NGO.

The project also aims to sensitize schools within the Municipality about the importance of forest conservation, deforestation and their roles in conserving the forest. You are specially invited to support this project through volunteerism or funding in any form.

Thank you.
